Career is a game mode, debuting in Bloody Roar 4, where your character must travel to a map where each node represents a one-round fight with a CPU controlled character. Each battle won gives to the character a certain amount of DNA points. The DNA points can be used to customize your characters with passive abilities, new moves (sometimes from other fighters) and, even, unlock new fighters.

The character selected in Career mode can, also, be used in a normal play by pressing PS2 L1 to switch to the character's 'Career' mode. 

Mode Features[]

Career-features
  • Start Mission - Start the Career mode

  • Character Data - Chose among your 8 save files (associated with the character of your choice)

You can also see your DNA, how many DNA points you earned through the mission and your MAX DNA how much you can gain DNA points.

DNA Points[]

DNA are the points your character will earn for each fight he won. the amount of DNA you win depends of where you are on the Career map, the more you close to the end the more DNA you will earn going between 100, 200, 300 or 500 points. Through the Career mode, you can win to 96 000 DNA Points if you not redo a previous fight. You can repeat a fight to earn additional DNA but it will only give you 50 points.

DNA points are used to equip your fighter with new abilities. Abilities equipped subtract from your current DNA, and if you do not have enough you will not be able to equip. De-equipping an ability gives you that amount of DNA back.

MAX DNA[]

The Max DNA are all the DNA points you can earn through the Career mode without being subtracted when your character equips himself with acquirred abilities, meaning that you can also earn to 96 000 MAX DNA if you complete one time the Career mode.

MAX DNA are used to unlock new fighters.

Ability list

For each Career Mode character, you can equip up to 15 abilities simultaneously, which must be earned by winning battles in Career Mode.

Attack Ability[]

  • Ground Damage Bonus (10 000 DNA) - Increases damage done by ground attacks
  • Air Damage Bonus (10 000 DNA) - Increases damage done by airborne attacks.
  • Punch Damage Bonus (8 000 DNA) - Increases damage done by punching attacks.
  • Kick Damage Bonus (8 000 DNA) - Increases damage done by kicking attacks.
  • Beast Damage Bonus (8 000 DNA) - Increases damage done by beast attacks.
  • Scratch Damage Bonus (2 000 DNA) - Increases damage done by scratching (beast) attacks.
  • Anti-Damage Suppression (8 000 DNA)

Stall Ability[]

  • Ground Damage Stall Increase (3 000 DNA)
  • Air Damage Stall Increase (3 000 DNA)
  • Punch Damage Stall Increase (2 000 DNA)
  • Kick Damage Stall Increase (2 000 DNA)
  • Beast Damage Stall Increase (2 000 DNA)

Amplify Ability[]

  • Standard Move Damage Effect Rank Up (8 000 DNA)
  • Command Move Damage Effect Rank Up (8 000 DNA)

Block Break Ability[]

  • Block Break Punch (3 000 DNA) - Punch moves become Guard Break
  • Block Break Kick (3 000 DNA) - Kick moves become Guard Break
  • Block Break Beast (3 000 DNA) - Beast moves become Guard Break
  • Add Block Break to Standard Move (10 000 DNA) - Moves using no more than one directional input become Guard Break
  • Add Block Break to Command Move (10 000 DNA) - Moves using more than one directional input become Guard Break

Command Move Ability[]

  • Command Move Follows High Move work (2 000 DNA) - Any high ranged attack can be cancelled into a command attack
  • Command Move Follows Mid Move command work (2 000 DNA) - Any mid ranged attack can be cancelled into a command attack
  • Command Move Follows Low Move work (2 000 DNA) - Any low ranged attack can be cancelled into a command attack
  • Command Move Follows Standard Move and can cancel (2 500 DNA) - Any standard attack can be cancelled into a different command attack
  • Command Move Follows Command Move and can cancel (2 500 DNA) - Any command attack can be cancelled into a different command attack
  • Command Move Follows Beast Drive and can cancel (2 500 DNA) - Any Beast Drives can be cancelled into a different command attack

Command Additional Ability[]

  • Charge Effect 1 (5 000 DNA) - Allows you to charge one of your command attacks
  • Charge Effect 2 (2 500 DNA) - Allows you to charge one of your command attacks
  • New Combo 1 (1 000 DNA) - A new attack string for your character
  • New Combo 2 (1 000 DNA) - A new attack string for your character
  • New Combo 3 (1 000 DNA) - A new attack string for your character
  • New Combo 4 (1 000 DNA) - A new attack string for your character
  • New Combo 5 (1 000 DNA) - A new attack string for your character
  • New Combo 6 (2 500 DNA) - A new attack string for your character (Japan only)
  • New Combo 7 (2 500 DNA) - A new attack string for your character (Japan only)
  • New Beast Drive (1 000 DNA) - A new Beast Drive for your character

Throw Build-Up Ability[]

  • Wider Throw Window (15 000 DNA) - Can use throws from further away
  • Throw at Cancel Point (3 000 DNA) - Can cancel any cancellable attack into a throw

Defense Ability[]

  • Heavy Block Always On (1 000 DNA) - Uses Heavy Guard even if not holding Guard
  • Heavy Block with Short Stall (5 000 DNA) - Decreases the recovery time on Heavy Guard
  • Heavy Block: Blocks Unblockable (10 000 DNA)
  • Heavy Block: Blocks Unblockable and Short Stall (20 000 DNA)
  • Defense Bonus (5 000 DNA) - Increases defense to incoming attacks
  • Block Effect with Command Move (6 000 DNA) - All command attacks act like electric
  • Block Effect with Standard Move (9 000 DNA) - All normal attacks act like electric
  • Heavy Block Effect with Command Move (15 000 DNA)
  • Heavy Block Effect with Standard Move (15 000 DNA)

Evade Ability[]

  • Fast Evade (3 000 DNA) - The Fighter will have the Fast Evade as type of evade
  • Block Evade (3 000 DNA) - The Fighter will have the Block Evade as type of evade
  • Counter Evade (3 000 DNA) - The Fighter will have the Counter Evade as type of evade
  • Recovery (1 000 DNA)

Beast Ability[]

  • Hyper Beast (3 000 DNA) - You can use Hyper Beast Form in Career mode
  • Beast Gauge Restored Over Time (3 000 DNA)
  • Hyper Jump (1 000 DNA)
  • Air Cancel (1 000 DNA) - While in Beast Mode, any launch or juggle attack can be cancelled into a jump on connect

Status Change Ability[]

  • Weight Up (1 500 DNA)
  • Weight Down (1 500 DNA)
  • Faster Human Form (25 000 DNA) - Character is faster when in Human Form
  • Faster Beast Form (25 000 DNA) - Character is faster when in Beast Form
  • Faster Hyper Beast Form (25 000 DNA) - Character is faster when in Hyper Beast Form

Status Lock Ability[]

  • Human Mode (30 000 DNA) - Remain in human mode for the entire fight
  • Beast Mode (5 000 DNA) - Remain in beast mode for the entire fight (Japan only)
  • Hyper Beast Mode (5 000 DNA) - Remain in hyper beast mode for the entire fight (Japan only)

When equipped, this abilities make replace a natural command attack of your characters in favor of another character's one.

Unlockable Characters[]

Hidden Characters are unlocked by earning a certain amount of MAX DNA points in Career Mode. After completing one combat that pushes you over a certain amount of MAX DNA, the new character will be unlocked in addition to any other bonuses earned.

  • Unlock Shina: Earn 5 000 MAX DNA points in Career Mode
  • Unlock Long: Earn 10 000 MAX DNA points in Career Mode
  • Unlock Kohryu: Earn 30 000 MAX DNA points in Career Mode
  • Unlock Uranus: Earn 50 000 MAX DNA points in Career Mode
  • Unlock Ryoho: Earn 100 000 MAX DNA points in Career Mode (You have to redo matches for unlock Ryoho since finishing the Career mode without redo only give you 96 000 MAX DNA)

Career Mode map[]

Career-map

In the Career mode, your fighter will have to go to browse a map composed by multiples nodes. Each node represent an one-round fight, there is 201 different matches that you can redo for additional DNA points.

On the map there are 47 circles composed of 2, 3, 4 or 5 nodes. Winning a node fight will unlock the path to all the surrounding nodes.

Trivia[]

  • Ony, in the Japanese version of Bloody Roar 4, the opponents in Career Mode get progressively harder. In the western version, the opponents stay at the same level of difficulty through the whole mode.
